Acne is a skin condition affecting a lot of people, both children and adults.  Acne is predominantly found in teenagers and usually disappears with age. Dealing with acne is not just a problem in the US or North America; people around the world struggle with this condition.

About Tea Tree Oil

Tea Tree Oil is distilled from a plant found in native Australia called the Melaleuca Alternifolia. This plant contains excellent anti-microbial properties. This makes it extremely effective when applied topically to acne infected lesions. It kills the bacteria that cause acne.

You can find Tea Tree Essential Oil in its pure and undiluted form online or in your local health food store. In fact, this oil is often a part of various products such as shampoos, mouthwashes, toothpaste, creams, lotions and gels.

Tea Tree Oil gets its anti microbial property from an ingredient called terpinen-4-ol. This ingredient is found to act effectively on propionibacterium, the bacteria responsible for acne. Tea Tree Oil for acne has to be applied topically for best results.

This wonderful oil, when combined with a system of cleansing regimes, healthy diet plan and vitamin supplements may permanently help you get rid of acne.

As compared to another product that is used to treat acne, benzoyl peroxide, Tea Tree Oil is found to produce lesser or no side effects. Benzoyl peroxide on the other hand is known to produce dryness, stinging, burning and itching.

Using Tea Tree Oil

Tea Tree Oil has to be diluted to a five percent solution by mixing five parts of the oil to ninety five parts of water before applying on the acne lesion. Many herbal cosmetics commercially produced for treatment of acne such as gels, lotions and creams come with Tea Tree Oil for acne as one of their ingredients.

There are a few steps to be followed in order to use the Tea Tree Oil for acne in the right manner. First of all, the oil has to be diluted according to the type of your skin. For instance, if you have an oily skin, the oil has to be diluted more. If you have a dry skin, you can add lesser water and keep the solution more oily. Tea Tree oil can be combined either with water or other herbal ingredients such as Aloe Vera gel for applying on the face.

Wash your face with a gentle cleanser or just water. Dab a little of this solution on to a cotton ball and apply lightly on your face. When it dries, apply a moisturizer that is oil free and repeat the process once or twice a day.

Tea Tree oil masks can be very effective used once or twice a week as they control outbreak of acne to a great extent. As you use tea tree oil for acne, you can add a few drops to natural green clay powder, make a mask and apply on your face making a thick paste with water. For best results, you can leave the mask on overnight on your face and neck.

However, those who suffer from severe acne cannot depend only on essential oils like Tea Tree Oil for treatment. This has to be supplemented with other treatment methods after consulting with the physician or a good skin specialist.

Perform this test first

Before applying the solution containing tea tree oil for acne completely, it is a good idea to experiment on a small area of your skin. This way you will know if you are allergic to the oil. Strength of dilution can also be tested and settled upon in this manner.

It is important to remember not to apply tea tree oil directly on your skin as it is very strong and may actually aggravate acne.
